1. Supreme Court in its Judgement dated 09.05.2016 ruled that only National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) would enable students to get admission to MBBS/BDS studies in India. Subsequent amendments made to Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and the Dentist Act, 1948 in 2016 to give effect to this ruling of the Supreme Court on NEET requirement have prescribed a uniform entrance examination for admission to MBBS/BDS courses, including for foreign students. NEET would serve as a measure to ensure a minimum standard of education in medical & dental colleges in India.
2. NEET will be held in examination centres in India. This year the examination will be held on 7 May 2017.
